About

The North American Association of Flying Effects Directors (NAAFED)
was founded in 1997 with the goal of promoting flying effects safety through education and training. Each year, NAAFED conducts a performer rigging workshop in DeKalb, IL, hosted in Northern Illinois University’s O’Connell Theatre, as well as other workshops and seminars, by request, at venues around the world. Workshop participants arrive from all over the globe to attend lectures, rig and operate different types of flying systems, experience flying choreography, and sharpen their flying skills! Guest lectures by a variety of industry professionals complement the instruction by the team of regular instructors, which includes well known experts Tracy Nunnally and Bill Auld. Participants receive the benefit of learning from ETCP Certified Riggers – Arena and Theatre, and ETCP Recognized Trainers. The diverse and experienced team of instructors covers topics such as the physics of rigging, cables and ropes, hardware and harnesses, knots, and more. The NAAFED conference is designed for all ages and skill levels; practical application follows lecture-based presentations to provide attendees with the opportunity to practice the theory they learn.
