*You will be asked to provide proof of your full-time student status and/or ETCP Certification or membership in AEA, SAG, AFTRA, PLASA, ITA, USITT, CITT, EdTA, or IATSE. Students may use both discounts.
Travel and Lodging
The closest major airports are O’Hare (ORD) and Midway (MDW). Chicago Rockford (RFD) is also a great option.
Anyone needing transportation from an airport may contact Home James Chauffeured Limousines for a discounted rate. Just mention NAAFED!
The DeKalb Best Western gives us a special rate for this event. Be sure to mention NAAFED for the discount!
The NIU Stevens Building is about a half mile walk from the Best Western.
If you are driving, the visitor parking lot is next to the theatre. (It is titled “Pay Lot” in Google Maps.) Parking is $5 a day. Please note that parking anywhere else on campus is likely to get you ticketed or towed. Our staff will arrange morning rides from the hotel to the the conference. Availability is limited.
What to Wear
Make sure you pack comfortable clothes for flying! Our staff recommends tight fitting bottoms, such as yoga pants, that are at least mid-thigh length. Shirts should have crew necks and sleeves. No spaghetti straps! Please also bring closed-toed shoes to wear in the theatre during rigging/installation.
You will also need gloves for fly system operation. Please contact us for our recommendation, or to purchase a pair in advance. We will also have gloves available for cash/check only purchase during the conference. Glove pricing ranges from $20-$25.
Where to Eat
There are many restaurant options within walking distance of the hotel and theatre. You will find most of them on Lincoln Highway.
Some fast food options are: Starbucks, Panda Express, Chipotle, Potbelly Sandwiches, McDonald’s, Burger King, KFC, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, Rammy’s Subs, Fushi Yami Sushi, Happy Wok, etc. The nearby sit-down options are The Junction Eatery, Pizza Villa, and IHOP.
