TOP Flight Academy

History

Founded in 1997, The North American Association of Flying Effects Directors (NAAFED) is an educational organization focused on training operators and performers in the flying effects industry.

Every year, NAAFED hosts the TOP Flight Academy, a multi-day workshop session that trains technicians, operators and performers about installing flying systems, operating flying equipment, and conducting flying choreography. In the past, participants from around the world — riggers, administrators, actors, dancers, aerialists, technical directors, and other entertainment professionals — that attend TOP Flight Academy receive the knowledge and practicality of operating a flying system.

TOP Flight Basic is a workshop structured to introduce participants to the basics of performer rigging and flying. These sessions cover basic rigging math, rigging safety, and the installation and operation of manual performer flying systems.

TOP Flight Pro builds on the material covered in the regular session, and delves into more advanced information. It is intended for those who already have rigging and performer flying experience and are looking to elevate their knowledge.
