The owner of Vertigo™, Tracy is an active member of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, the United States Institute for Theatre Technology, and the president of the North American Association of Flying Directors.
Tracy is also a member of the Educational Theatre Association, a lifetime member of the Illinois Theatre Association, and provides workshops for at theatre festivals across the nation.
One of the first 45 professional riggers to be certified by the PLASA’s Entertainment Technician Certification Program in both theatrical and arena rigging, Tracy is only one out of 35 rigging Recognized Trainers in North America. He is a specialist in all aspects of rigging, motion control, pyrotechnics, special effects, and scenery construction.
Tracy believes in using his skills as an educator to create an effective collaborative environment between his company and his clients. When working on projects for his flying effects company, Tracy teaches as a tenured professor and head of the graduate theatre technology program at the Northern Illinois University School of Theatre and Dance.
William currently teaches theater at Kent State University Tuscarawas.
William is certified as an ETCP Certified Rigger in both Arena and Theater, as well as an ETCP Recognized Trainer.
Professionally, he has worked all over the world to fly performers in North America, Central America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Before working as a flying director at Vertigo™, Bill toured Korea as a flying operator for ZFX Flying Effects. He also served as a technical director for the Lookingglass Theater Company in Chicago, as well as a venue technician at the La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego.
Academically, William earned his MFA Theater in Technical Direction from Northern Illinois University, and his Masters in Theater from Bowling Green State University in conjunction with the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, UK.
Prior to all this work in theater, William served several years of his life with the United States Army Airborne Corps.
